A poultice is a way to apply herbs directly on the skin. You can accomplish this by making up a paste with a mortar and pestle (or a food processor) and then applying the paste to the skin. Next you wrap it in a cloth to hold the herbs in place. A poultice is an excellent remedy for many common skin issues. When the skin is hot and inflamed, you want to allow the heat to escape; this is where a poultice is recommended over a salve, as a salve will seal up the heat and not let it escape.
Materials Needed

1/4 cup bentonite clay powder

5 drops Lavender

5 drops Melaleuca

Distilled Water

Method
  1. Add the clay to a small bowl and slowly add water until you have a peanut butter-like consistency. Stir in your essential oils.
  2. Apply your clay poultice to your skin and cover with a band-aid or cloth. It’s important to cover your clay poultice to prolong the drying process. Leave on for at least 30 minutes.
  3. Wash off and reapply several times throughout the day. Store your poultice in the refrigerator between uses.
