Dogs are known as man’s best friend for a reason! They always seem to be happy, and nothing brightens our day more than coming home to a wagging tail and a slobbery kiss or two. Not everyone is a dog person, though…for some of us, the quiet cuddles of a kitty are all we need to feel loved.
Basically, life wouldn’t be complete without our furry friends. The thought of sharing our love of essential oils with them just feels right. But, with such a wide range of products to choose from, it can be hard to know what oils to use and how often to use them. We care about all of your family members, human or not, so we’ve put together this post to help your pets get the most out of essential oils.
Before involving pets in your oiling routine, it’s important to research which oils are safe essential oils for dogs. In every case, be sure the oil is diluted with a carrier oil or water before bringing it anywhere near your pet. Start off with a small amount so you can monitor the reaction your pet has. We suggest a 4:1 ratio of carrier oil to essential oil, but if you have a large dog, try using a 3:1 ratio.
Be careful not to put oils anywhere near an animal’s eyes or nose. We also recommend that you never give oils to your pets for internal use. They can gain the benefits of essential oils topically without having to ingest them. Sometimes the best way to get your pet comfortable with essential oils is simply to wear them yourself. It’s always fun to see which oils your pet enjoys sniffing the most.
Please be sure to check your essential oil brand’s regulations before administering oils to your pets. As always, it’s a good idea to consult your veterinarian if you have serious concerns about your pet’s health. Does your fur baby have an essential oil routine, or even a favorite oil?
